Paul brings to finance facilitation in Queensland a unique mix of education and experiences having created billion dollar facilities to small leasing programmes.


  Paul works with management and financiers to see that visions become reality.


  In each transaction he has unleashed hidden value via structuring and marketing the proposed transaction to a number of potential investors.


  The most valuable experience he brings is his network based series of senior finance and line management roles with the Royal Dutch / “Shell” Group and with Thiess. (Paul commenced his career in Sydney, spent 14 years in Melbourne and has lived in Brisbane the last 7 years.) This gave Paul hands on experience in managing financial processes and leading bankers, varying from managing the financing of the Millmerran Power Station to proving the financial viability of an Atherton Petrol Station.


  The specialist financial skills, Paul gained in mining, energy and property sectors are applicable to all industries : borrowing, leasing, project and structured finance to achieve desired financial, tax and accounting outcomes.


  Paul has provided optimum solutions to organisations through facilitating their equity, borrowings, leasing, project and structured finance. His experience at Shell included standing in the shoes of its distributors, retailers, & joint venture partners and dealing with local and foreign financial institutions (debt, equity and hybrids) on their behalf.


  Shell encouraged Paul’s post-graduate study of finance, banking and accounting units so that he could become the co-ordinating adviser and the front man. At Thiess this is what he did on a number of transactions in building and resources projects. Given the continuing change in each of the disciplines, Paul who speaks the language of money, and is well networked to deliver his clients the optional solution based on their brief and prides himself on working with other professional advisers.


  Paul commenced his career with a traditional general financial education completing a Bachelor of Economics with Honours at The University of Sydney in 1976. He then joined B.A. Australia Ltd, merchant bankers, working on various transactions including the sale of the Utah’s coal assets to BHP. Following a Master of Commerce (Finance) at the University of Melbourne he joined Shell Australia initially in the Controls and Policy Group in January 1989. The following June he was appointed as the in-house “investment banker”.


  February 1991 to June 1994 Paul was seconded by Shell as CFO of Beasam P/L. Paul played an active role in financing its distributors and associated retail businesses. “This was real people living the small business ethic. I enjoyed working in this environment.” Say Paul.


  In June of 1994 Paul returned to Shell Australia as Assistant Treasurer to work on the float of Acacia Resources and the trade sale of Boddington. Paul also worked on a number of large transactions and managed a team of 4 who provided financial advice across the business. Here he learned the important skill of managing other professional resources and co-ordinating process with rating agencies and bank credit committees. At this time he competed a Master of Business (Banking) at Monash University where he develop a deep appreciation of the rating agency, bank credit and investor evaluation processes.


  In October 1997 Paul was appointed Treasurer of Shell Coal International and worked on a number of major coal and power projects. At this time he completed a Master of Business (Professional Accounting) at QUT. He developed skills in risk identification and management Following the sale of Shell Coal to Anglo American in July 2000 Paul lead in the refinancing of the USD 1 bn purchasing facility. In April 2001 Paul joined Thiess and lead their Finance and Investment function. Here he took a number of projects to market.


  Paul a Past President 2001-2003 of the Finance and Treasury Association (FTA) and is well networked in the local and national financial markets. Prior to being President of the FTA he was Vice President, Chair of the National Technical Committee & Director, FTA, 11/00-11/01 and Director and Chair of the National Education Committee FTA, 5/95 –11/99. Paul has lectured for the Securities Institute and at a number of universities on bank relationship management, risk management, financing and project structuring.


  Paul’s education and professional qualification couple with his experience has given him a special knowledge of the market. This has been recognised by his Fellowships of the Australian Institute of Banking and Finance, Finance and Treasury Association and the Australian Institute of Company Directors and an Associate Fellowship of Australian Institute of Management. His profile has given him an excellent network including the legal and accounting professions.


  Paul enjoys helping people reach their dreams. He has worked with large and small organisations. He can explain potential transactions in commonly understood language.


  Paul also assists several clients on an ongoing basis to manage their risk profile in the areas of commodity price, currency and interest rates.


  Paul is truly independent. He is able to approach banks, financial institutions and other sources of funds to discuss their appetite and pricing for different classes of assets and risk profiles – and this varies over time. Paul is then able to prepare a marketing submission for the banks etc which is consistent with their requirements for their approval processes. To achieve the best submission Paul will work with you legal, accounting / tax and technical advisers. He can then, on the client’s behalf, seek financing packages from a number of sources and achieve the best mix of pricing and terms & conditions.


  In November 2002 Paul founded Parm Capital Services to bring his skills in managing the financing process principally to clients in the mining, energy and property sectors.


  Paul is the Inaugural Chairman of the Audit Board of the Gold Coast City Council and holds directorships with a number of companies.
